Summer Blog Party / Sommer Blog Party

Welcome to the fist stop of the "SommerBlog Party" organized by Andrea - Quiltmanufaktur and Susanne -Stoffbreite. The next two weeks there will be 14 free tutorial of 14 lovely German Bloggers (maybe in English too) with the summer theme. I am very happy to open this blog Party with a very simple and quick project: A Lunch Bag.

Willkommen beim ersten Stopp der "Sommer Blog Party", die von Andrea - Quiltmanufaktur und Susanne - Stoffbreite organisiert wird. Die nächsten 14 Tage wird es 14 kostenlose Anleitungen von 14 tollen deutschen Bloggerinnen mit einem Sommerthema geben. Und ich darf diese Party eröffnen mit einem einfachen, schnellen Projekt: einer "Brottüte".

What you Need / Was ihr braucht:

4 rectangles 24 x 36 cm / 9.5 x 14 inch waxed Cloth

2 velcro strips 14 cm / 5.5 Inch

Of course you can enlarge the fabrics and make it wider, but leave the measures for the velcro the same.

4 Rechtecke 24 x 36 cm oder 9,5 x 14 inch Stoff oder Wachstuch

2 Streifen Klett 14 cm oder 5,5 Inch

Natürlich könnt ihr das in der Breite vergrößern, aber belasst die Maße des Kletts.

Sew the velcro on top of the two outside fabrics - each in the middle of the fabric, one starting at the edge, the other starting 5 cm / 2 inch below.

Klett auf den beiden Außenseiten mittig aufnähen, beim einen Teil gleich am oberen Rand und auf Vorderseite mit 5 cm / 2 inch Abstand vom Rand annähen.

Piece one outside fabric and one inside fabric together on the top of the parts and fold them apart.

Näht einen Innen- und einen Außenstoff am oberen Ende zusammen und faltet es auseinander.

Lay them together wrong sides on the table and looking at you. Sew around the large rectangle and leave a 12 cm / 5 Inch hole on the lining part to turn it inside out.

Legt die Teile aufeinander. Nun rundherum schließen und eine Öffnung von 12 cm / 5 inch an der einen Innenseite belassen zum Wenden.

Fold the corners and mark a 3 cm / 1.25 Inch line from the Corner or 6 cm / 2.5 Inch from one side to the other. Sew on the line and cut away the Corner ( do the same on all 4 corners).

Ecken Falten und eine Linie ziehen bei 3 cm / 1,25 inch von der Ecke oder 6 cm / 2,5 inch Breite. Auf der Linie entlangnähen und Ecken abschneiden (an allen 4 Ecken).

Close the hole carefully.

Öffnung sauber verschließen.

Turn the inside out and topstitch around the opening.

Innenfutter nach innen stülpen und am oberen Rand absteppen.

You are ready :)

Und fertig :)

Of course you can sew this all without lining or use Cotton fabric outside and waxed Cloth inside or or or....

Having a waxed lining can be cool to wipe out with a damp Cloth. But be carful, washing this out with lots of water is not good, because the seams are not sealed. You can find the tutorial on craftsy too for easy printing.

Das ganze kann natürlich auch ohne Innenfutter genäht werden oder außen mit Stoff und innen mit Wachs und und und...

Mit Innenfutter kann man evtl. Essensreste gut feucht auswischen. Ist aber nicht geeignet, um es richtig auszuwaschen, da die Nähte nicht versiegelt sind. Die Anleitung findet ihr auch auf craftsy zum leichteren Ausdrucken.

The Everyday Bag is a bag just as the name says: for every day and a MUST HAVE :). It´s small enough to carry around and big enough to store some things in it. The bag is about 8 x 11 x 2.8 inch (20 x 28 x 6.5 cm) and has an adjustable handle. You can sew the bag in different variations.

Improved Curves

I confess: I am a srcap addicted. I cannot understand how I could throw away bits of fabric just 2 years ago LOL...

Ich gestehe: Ich bin Rest-süchtig! Ich kann überhaupt nicht mehr nachvollziehen, wie ich all die Reste wegschmeißen konnte ;-)...

It gives me a good feeling to make something nice and new out of scraps. Well, yesterday I thought it might be great to have some individual cards and so I took out a tote full with scaps which I didn´t sorted in color-orderd bins yet. I started to cut some curves and so this came out.

Ich hab ein echt gutes Gefühl, wenn ich was schönes und neues aus Resten mache. Ja und gestern habe ich mir gedacht, ich könnte ein paar individualisierte Karten gebrauchen und habe mir einen Restebeutel hervorgekramt, den ich farblich noch nicht wegsortiert habe. Ich habe ein paar Kurven aus den Stoffen geschnitten und das kam heraus.

Here is a little tutorial, how to sew improved curves. There are lots of tutorials for this technique, but I loved making this little cutie and so here are the steps... 

Hier eine kleine Anleitung, wie ich improvisierte Kurven nähe. Nichts neues, solche Anleitungen gibt es genug, aber ich finde das kleine Teil so schön, also hier die Schritte...

First your fabrics pieces shoud be much wider than the finished piece you want at the end!
Lay two fabrics over each other with right sides looking at you. You have to consider that the two fabrics overlap each other enough to cut the curves you wish. 

Achtung, die Stoffstücke sollten breiter sein, als das am Ende gewünschte Kunstwerk!
Lege zweit Stoffe übereinander, dass beide rechten Seiten nach oben zu dir schauen. Vergwissere dich, dass sich die Stoffe auch weit genut überlappen, damit du die gewünschten Kurven ausschneiden kannst.

You can draw your curve on the top fabric or just start cutting courageous with your rotary cutter. Here you can see, that the two fabrics show the same curve after cutting.

Wenn du magst, kannst du dir die Kurven auf das obere Stück Stoff malen oder ganz mutig mit dem Cutter durch beide Stoffe schneiden. Nun haben beide Stoffe die gleichen Kurven.

Now sew the two part together like you sew normal drunhard path curves. Here is a great tutorial how to sew them without pins from Leanne - shecanquilt. That´s where I learned it :). You should really try it, because in this case, where the curves can run in different directions, it is a hard way to sew with pins.

Nun nähe beide Teile zusammen wie du sonst auch Viertelkreise nähst. Hier ist eine geniale Anleitung von Leanne - shecanquilt, wie man Kurven ohne Stecknadeln näht. Hier hab ich´s auch gelernt ;-). Das solltes du unbedingt ausprobieren, da gerade in diesem Fall die Kurven auch in beide Richtungen gehen können, was mit Stecknadeln nicht so einfach ist. 

Now you only have to press the seam to one side and start with the next fabric. 

Nun noch die Naht zu einer Seite bügeln und den nächsten Stoffe genauso nähen.

These are the card, but I am not sure, if I like them so much ;-) 

Das sind meine Karten, bin aber nicht so sicher, ob ich sie wirklich mag ;-)

 ... and my daughter and me made some other cards too, so funny ;-)

... und meine Tochter und ich haben noch andere Karten genäht, war sehr lustig ;-)

I used this technique also for the Bee Germany Blocks for Silke Scheller - this was real fun and she is making a beautiful quilt from it.

Diese Technik habe ich auch bei den Bee Germany Blöcken für Silke Scheller genutzt - das macht riesig Spaß und sie wird daraus einen tollen Quilt machen.

I have to confess, that I am always curious, when I find a yellow note in my mailbox: You can pick the parcel the next day!

At the moment I am waiting for 3, no - now for 2 parcels I ordered weeks ago, so I had no idea which one this could be…. Yeah, my handles from Hong Kong arrived – I want to try new bags. Yes, I know, it´s not good for the ecobalance, but it is unbelievable but true, that almost everything is cheaper elsewhere. You order in USA, Hong Kong, Japan, Australia and UK just like this – insane!

But I promised myself to buy less fabrics this year and until now I am on the right track :)

Ich muss gestehen, dass ich immer noch super neugierig bin, wenn ich einen gelben Zettel im Briefkasten habe: Sie können Ihr Paket bei der Post abholen!

Z.Z. habe ich mal wieder 3 Bestellungen laufen, ähem jetz noch 2, die aber schon einige Wochen her sind, also wusste ich nicht, was mich erwartet… Juhu, meine Taschenhenkel aus Hong Kong sind da, ich will neue Taschen ausprobieren. Ja, ich weiß -  Ökobilanz und so, aber leider ist es unglaublich, dass dennoch fast alles billiger ist als hier. Man bestellt dann eben mal in USA, Hong Kong, Japan, Australien oder UK – Wahnsinn!

Aber ich bin meinem Vorsatz bisher treu geblieben und habe viel weniger bestellt als letztes Jahr :)

How the Charlie Bag from Burda became a twin bag…

… I spent the last weekend with 8 gorgeous Ladies from the Bee Germany together sewing, chatting and buying fabric.

So it happened that I bought some very untypical fabric for me. I was influenced and inspired at the same time from Ulrike and she was from me. She wanted to sew the Charlie Bag from Burda at our get together and I threw over my origin plans and switched over to this bag ;-).

Ok, we bought the same gobelin / tapestry, at least that´s what the salesman said, a lovely lining for 4 Euro per meter and for the ground we decided (together of course) for an undefined kind of fabric which is maybe used in the automotive industry – a kind of a cloth on gum?!?

So we started and finished the same project at the same weekend… it was so fun to share this – you could hear us saying bad bad words alle the time because this undefined cloth-gum-automotive-fabric was so bad to sew…but have a look. It looks gorgeous.

 
When my daughter saw this bag the first she said was: “This is very untypical for you!” And she is so right, but maybe that´s why I love it even more… and of course because I know there is a twin living somewhere in Germany ;-).

The next time when I make this pattern – and I am sure I will – the handles will become longer for me. It is an easy and free pattern and if you use only fabrics without cutting them in parts to sew them together again, you will finish very quickly!

Bee Germany Weekend – It was great Bee Germany Wochenende – Schön war´s…

We planed half a year before we finally met in Berlin in a rented flat in the middle of Kreuzberg the hippest district. Unfortunately we were only eigth  of twelve– life is not always following our rules. But it was so exciting to meet these Ladies in real life und I wasn´t disappointed. Ladies, you are fantastic!!! I got some present for kind of hosting this meeting, thank you so much to MonaW and Silke Scheller I was very pleased.

Mit einem halben Jahr Planung im Voraus haben wir uns endlich in Berlin mitten im Szenebezirk Kreuzberg in einer gemieteten Wohnung getroffen. Eigentlich wollte die Truppe komplett sein, aber wie das Leben eben so spielt….es hält sich leider nicht immer an unserer Regeln, so waren wir eben acht! Es war echt spannend die Mädels in Natura zu treffen und ich wurde nicht enttäuscht – Ihr seid so klasse!!! Ich habe sogar "Gastgeschenke" bekommen, so süß...

 Almost two full days we sewed, laughed, explained, asked, swapped, talked and of course ate. We stood in a kind of food-mile. The variety was enormous and we ate Vietnamese and Turkish food and drank Latte Macciato the afternoon to keep it international.

Knappe zwei volle Tage haben wir genäht, gelacht, erklärt, gefragt, getauscht, gequatscht und natürlich auch gegessen. Wir sind ja quasi mitten in der Fressmeile gelandet…. Die Auswahl an Welt-Essen war riesig: Vietnamesisch und Türkisch mit einem Latte Macchiato am Nachmittag ist es dann geworden.

We had to go to the fabric-market at the Maybachufer, you can find it there every Saturday. We bought lots of low prieced fabrics and other sewing stuff and some of us had to use them at once into new sewing projects…

Auch den Stoffmarkt am Maybachufer, der jeden Samstag dort zu finden ist, haben wir unsicher gemacht und uns eingedeckt mit Stoffen und Nähzubehör, das teilweise auch sofort in Nähkunstwerke umgesetzt wurde… 

 

There are already new plans for the next two meetings :)

Es gibt schon Pläne für zwei weitere Treffen :)
