Cathedral Windows - The Lazy Way / Für Faule

I have to confess, that I am starting to love Cathedral Windows (CW) in spite of all this ironing. Because I am going to make a pillow from it, it doesn´t have to be very neat on the backsite and so I had the idea to sew some parts with the sewing machine. I have only had the workshop with Brioni at the FQ Retreat in London and never read a tutorial about CW, so I am more than sure, that this is not my invention and other had this idea before. I love handsewing, but not seams I could do much better and quicker by machine. I decided to sew the fixing of the four point after folding the fabric several times. And I decided to sew the folded quarters together with zigzag. Just be aware to start sewing from 0.25 inch abway from the corners, because you need to fold the fabric back to get the typical petal shape.

Have a look at every single step... This is not raising the claim to be a tutorial. Just wanted to share my lazyness with you ;-).

Now I am really motivated to have this pillow on my sofa, soon!!!

  3. I love this pattern done up in the vintage sheets. You are so smart to machine-sew a pillow that you won't see the back of anyway! Maybe I'll dust off my four sad Cathedral Windows I started a couple years ago and try the machine on them...

  7. Hooray for innovation! This is so pretty and I can't wait to see the finished pillow :o) I have to admit that CWs have always scared me off.

  11. I haven't tried cathedral windows yet. If you can make them an easier way which looks as good, then it sounds like a great idea.

  15. It was good to see you , at FQR, and put a face to a name I recognised.
Your cathedral windows ar lovely, there are a few groups which have done very interesting things with the technique, and, you are not alone- lots of them are machine sewn, entirely.
I love the detail pictures you have done of the machined technique- it is very helpful.
